Where: So this one is cheating a bit… if you’re an Aucklander it’s not exactly in your backyard… because it’s in Christchurch. I just really wanted to add this one to the series because it’s so beautiful! The Rapaki track is in Mount Vernon park in Christchurch, New Zealand. The entrance is off Rapaki Road near Hillsborough.
When: Year round!
The Rapaki Track is one of many walking tracks in the area. This one is particularly popular because of the great view at the top of both banks peninsula AND back towards the city.
It’s straight up hill the entire way and will take you about 30-45 minutes to reach the top depending on your level of fitness. The greatest part is the views all the way up, and your reward for getting to the top is that you get to walk all the way back DOWN hill.
My Mum and I did this on a cold winters day and really enjoyed it. It was a great temperature as we didn’t over heat!
I would recommend this for the views but also for the fitness! A track to walk regularly if you live in the area.
